PART Utilities Home
Welcome to the home of PART and BGC Science, research applications developed by the Brain Game Center at Northeastern University under the direction of Dr. Aaron Seitz and Dr. Susanne Jaeggi.
These applications support a wide range of cognitive, auditory, and visual assessments and training protocols, including both traditional and gamified task designs. They are used in laboratory, clinical, educational, and remote research settings.
Applications
PART
PART (Portable Automated Rapid Testing) is the primary researcher-facing platform used to design, configure, prototype, and administer studies and training protocols.
PART supports:
- Cognitive, auditory, and visual assessments
- Training and intervention workflows
- Gamified and traditional task designs
- Flexible experiment configuration
- Rapid prototyping of new paradigms
- Cross-platform deployment
PART is commonly used by researchers and study designers during development, piloting, and controlled laboratory testing.
BGC Science
BGC Science is the participant-facing companion application for running studies created in PART.
BGC Science is designed for:
- In-lab participant testing
- Remote and at-home studies
- Simplified participant workflows
- Standardized study administration
- Large-scale deployment of existing protocols
Studies created in PART are compatible with BGC Science, enabling streamlined deployment from study design to participant execution.
Release Channels
Production Releases
Production releases are the recommended builds for active studies and participant data collection. These releases prioritize stability, consistency, and long-term reproducibility. Task behavior changes and feature updates are introduced more conservatively.
Researchers conducting active studies should generally use Production releases unless otherwise coordinated with the Brain Game Center development team.
Next Releases
PART Next and BGC Next provide early access to upcoming features, task updates, bug fixes, hardware support, and workflow improvements currently under active development.
Next releases are updated more frequently and may include incomplete functionality or changes to task behavior as development progresses. While these builds are often suitable for day-to-day use, they are primarily intended for:
- Study prototyping
- Internal evaluation
- Pilot testing
- Early access to upcoming functionality
Next releases are generally not recommended for active participant studies without coordination with the Brain Game Center development team.
